About #Sandy5

Saturday, October 28, 11AM

Communities across the city will remember, resist, and rise together.

Five years ago, Superstorm Sandy took lives, destroyed homes, and flooded subways. Like in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Florida, and Texas, the people hit hardest by Sandy were the poor, people of color, immigrants, and already our most vulnerable communities.

New York’s elected officials must protect us from the impacts of climate change and lead a just transition to a renewable energy economy. We cannot wait any longer. On October 28th, we will assemble and march over the Brooklyn Bridge, and then rally at the Alfred E. Smith Houses’ ball fields in the Lower East Side. For those who have accessibility needs or are unable to make it to Brooklyn, we invite you to join us at Smith Houses’ ball fields at 2pm.

On October 28th, let’s march to demand a better future.

About Sandyween:

On Sunday, October 29th join us for Sandyween: a day of Trick O’ Treat, costume contests, raffle and prizes, music and fun activities for all ages. This LESReady! event celebrates our power to come together and support one another through disasters like Sandy in the Lower East Side.

Five years after Sandy, we remember the storm and how our neighbors came together to support one another. Given the hoard of recent hurricanes impacting the Caribbean and other parts of the United States, we recognize the need to rise in solidarity for our siblings abroad, while also continuing to prepare to get through future storms together.

Sandyween is a family friendly event. For questions on the event, please e-mail

**Those who RSVP early will be entered into a special raffle to get a prize day of — so don’t forget to RSVP!***
